A laptop case for my soon-to-be mac :)

In about Easter I started on a little bigger project of mine, so far I have only made small and easy things. I am going to buy a macbook, so then I need a cover for it so I can bring to my classes without it getting scratched. I found this awesome receipie. I followed those instructions. Apparently my stitches i a bit long so, I did not need to knit as many after the pattern, as you might see on my pictures.

I like purple, so my felted laptop case is mainly in purple with semi white apples. It is knitted on very big needles… Pictures below :)

It is lined with ordinary cotton fabrick, and a long zipper (no need for fancy zipper with exact measurements, as it was very hard finding a 92 cm long zipper, I bough a meter from a big roll of zipper band). It was a bit hard to sew on the fabrick and the zipper at the top of my case, because the felted bit was very thick there…

But overall I am pretty happy with this one. Of course it look homemade with some mistakes here and there, but it suits my needs and look ok :)

Striped armwarmers

A little while ago I figured I could problably knit christmas/birthday gifts. That helps me for having something to do, I give away something crafty, and maybe it is just the perfect gift?

Anyway, I decided that my sister could get some armwarmers, seeing as it seems as it is her kind of thing. I made my choice upon some striped armwarmers in black and white. The yarn is a little bit thick and I used size 5,5 needles.

I basically casted on 34 stitches. Knitted one round, then one round purl, another purl, and last a normal round again. Then I knitted 5 stitches, casted off 4, the continued on the round, then started onto the next round, when I reached the part where I had casted off some stitches in the previous round, I added 4 stitches, making the number of stitches back to 34. Then I knitted round 3 and 4. Before beginning at the beginning again (except the thumb hole thing). Knitted until I had my desired width. After that I casted all the stitches off and sewed the armwarmer together. Then knitted the other.

BlueGreen Skarf for my little sister

A long time ago, my little sister decided she wanted to knit as well. So she bought yarn and got needles from my mum. She started to knit, it went alright, but the yarn she got was a little strange (it varied in width), so she found it difficult. I said I could take over for her. I knitted a bit, but it got quite boring. :P So it has just been lying around for months, she has forgotten about it too. But last month I decided I could use it as a gift for her, so I got it all done. It is in blue and green. And it is basically just 25 stitches ( I think) back and forth for as long as there is yarn left.

My boyfriend Johnny is my little show off model :)

One little white armwarmer

I recently tried to make several armwarmers, and trying out different techniques. Not so advaced, but a little. I had a little bit of white yarn left over from a previous project, so I decided to try something new. I casted on 40 stitches on four needles. I also knitted with another thicker, whiter tread, a ’string’ that goes upwards. . . See pictures, difficult to explain. How I did that was to knit two with my MC, then one purl with the other tread, then finish knitting the round, then knitting three MC stitches, one purl with the other, and so on until I reached the part when the thumb were to be made. I am not a very experienced knitter, so I just did what was easiest (what I thought at least) to make the thumb. I turned my knitting around and knitted a round (when the knitting was turned I knitted purl), then turned it again, and so on until the thumb hole was done, then I knitted as usual until the length I wanted was acquired.

But the result was to too comforting. I now know that knitting like this isnt really comfortable. As the knitting doesn’t stretch when you take it on. But I will still post the pictures. I like the other white tread that circles around the arm warmer. It was a nice lesson.

One armwarmer and a thumbwarmer

A couple of weeks ago I went to a very big party for all the people in Trondheim (my city) who had graduated from high school. In Norway there is a big celebration after you finish high school, it is called “Russetiden” or “Russ”. And I am not sure, but I think this is unique for Norway. Anyway during this time (which is in may) we party a lot. A bit too much some might say. Everybody wears these special pants and clothing in a colour according to what you have studied. I was a red “Russ”. So going to this party meant that I should wear these kind of clothes again. Unfortunately for me, my clothing is back home to my parents. So I decided I could just wear something else red. I had a shaw and shoes. But wanted something more, so I knitted a arm warmer (I were supposed to knit two, but I ran out of yarn, and the store closed just as I realized this), and there were enough yarn for a thumb warmer, so that was it.

I knitted it exactly as I did with the short black arm warmers (see an earlier post), except I casted on 20 stitches instead.

Mittens and a smitten

During the fall, when it starts to get colder in Norway, my boyfriend and I was walking a lot outside, and it was very cold to hold hands and neither of us had any warm mittens. So I decided to knit some, and a smitten as well. A smitten is two mittens knit together as one mitten with two openings.

I found the pattern in a knitting magazine. “Sandnes Julehefte” (Sandnes ( a yarn type) Christmasmagazine). I was too eager to get started knitting, so I didn’t bother checking my gauge, so the mittens apear to be a bit long. . . But they are comfy nonetheless.

Short black armwarmers

In the beginning of may my boyfriend I went travelling to his mums family down south in Skien. It was a 12-hour trip, so I had decided to knit something during the trip there and back again. I choosed to knit these easy armwarmers (I dont think they are called that, but I cant seem to find the right english name). They are very short, because that was what my guinea pig wanted (Johnny).

The pattern is quite easy, all I did was to cast on 30 stiches on a needle. And then I knitted in this pattern: 1 round, 1 purl round, 1 purl round, 1 round. Then I knitted 5 stiches, then I bind off 4 stiches and continued on round. When the second round started I knitted until the hole I made in the previous round, and I added 4 stiches, making the number of stiches back to 30. Now there is a hole there to the thumb. Then I just continued on round number 3 and 4. And from the beginning again (except the hole thing). Continued until the desired width was aquired. Quite easy :) Then I sewed it together. Done !

Linux Tux Scarf

In the month before easter my boyfriend lost his scarf, and requested me to make him one. I happily obliged to do it, seeing as I needed something new to knit on.
My boyfriend is a geek, so the pattern had to be geek. Now it was a little tricky to find something easy to knit, and yet geeky and him. I finally figured out that the mascot to his Operating System, Linux, would be awesome. It is a penguin.

I made the pattern with a blank graph paper and a picture of the penguin. I held the picture and graph paper up against a lamp and then I drew the outline. I bought the yarn needed, it is wool, not too thick and it is not the thinnest. In the colors of black, white and orange.

One problem though, how to make the backside of the scarf pretty as well? I solved it by making it like one foot had one thread and the other foot another thread. It got pretty messy after awhile, seeing as I had decided to make a white outline of the penguin. At one point I had 11 different threads ! Later I have realised that the white outline should have been sewed on when the scarf was done, oh well, lesson learned.
